Stop Sex Trafficking

The London Abused Women’s Centre provides longterm help to at risk or trafficked women

The London Abused Women’s Centre provides long-term trauma-informed counselling, advocacy, outreach, and other supports to girls and women who have been or are at risk of being sex trafficked. LAWC also offers support and resources to family members worried that a loved one is being trafficked.

LAWC works closely with community partners to offer training to groups and individuals to raise awareness and provide information on how to recognize and support a suspected victim of trafficking.

Human Trafficking in London

In London, our proximity to the 401 corridor makes the city a hub for traffickers. Women and girls are often lured online or in places where young people gather. They are also lured into massage parlours, strip clubs, and most often by someone posing as their boyfriend or ‘Romeo pimp.’

Human trafficking is one of the fastest-growing crimes worldwide. In Ontario, most reported cases involve sexual exploitation, also known as sex trafficking. Young women and girls are particularly at risk. Indigenous girls and women makeup more than 50% of trafficking victims. The average age of a trafficking victim is 13, age 12 for Indigenous victims.

What is an Intake?

An intake appointment is the first appointment someone has with an Advocate Counsellor at LAWC. In your intake appointment, you will work with your Advocate Counsellor to assess any current safety issues, discuss why you're interested in services at LAWC, and decide if LAWC is right for you. You do not have to disclose that you have been a victim of human trafficking while booking your intake if you do not want to.
